Hey everybody!
We've got a very special event for all you spoken word poetry heads out there. Our October event will be held as part of Cardiff Music City Festival. Not only will we be conducting our usual open-mic proceedings, but we'll also have two local feature acts for your enjoyment:

Jack Pascoe is a poet and creative non-fiction writer who began his creative career on the Cardiff spoken-word scene in 2009. Since then, he has been published in several poetry publications, appeared in galleries alongside visual art, and performed in various venues across the U.K and beyond. He has also won several poetry slams and opened for top acts like John Hegley, Linton Kweisi Jonhson, and Harry Baker. Along with poetry, he has contributed creative non-fiction pieces for CityLife; a project funded by the British Academy giving voice to marginalised members of the East London community through personal stories.
His work is a gumbo pot of self-reflection, inner-city realism, spontaneous surrealism, playful lyrical shenanigans, and a profound connection with the natural world.

Zaru Jonson began writing seriously at seventeen after watching three beetles intentionally drown themselves in an Italian swimming pool. A consistent presence in Cardiff's performance circuit since '09, Zaru's proclamatory, haunted spoken word has led to readings at poetry nights, festivals, exhibitions and protests around the country.
As himself and under musical alias Zhubat, he has supported wordsmiths like Buddy Wakefield, Saul Williams, Fliptrix, Dr. Syntax, and Staceyann Chin; 1994 Farrago Slam champ Martin Daws dubbed him 'the verbal astronaut.'
Buzz Magazine has called him 'a revelation; a truly talented, bilingual rhymer with a gruff delivery and a bright future.'

With regards to the open-mic, here's what you need to know:
1. You get 5 minutes to do your thing.
2. There will be a rolling sign up throughout the night. Sign up for the first section starts at 7pm once the doors open, and the show starts at 7.30pm. There will be limited open-mic spaces at this particular event, so we advise an early arrival to secure your spot
3. Hate speech and disruptive heckling will not be tolerated.
4. There will be a suggested donation policy of £3 on the night. The money raised will go towards the cost of booking more fabulous feature acts for future events. We believe that all people who work in the arts should be paid for their work. We also believe that our audience deserves the finest calibre of poetry/spoken word in return for their loyalty and generosity.
