Steyning Downland Scheme will be carrying out a careful excavation end of the Rifle Range.
The aim is to learn more about how the Rifle Range has been used over the years. The dig will be led by SDS volunteer Justin Russell, a qualified archaeologist with specialist knowledge of rifle ranges.
This event is FREE but donations are welcome.
The dig is to open to people to join in, even if you haven't had any previous experience.
Please pre-book, so that we have some idea of numbers and can notify you of any last-minute changes.
There are 2 ways to participate:
1) Come and join in - We have capacity for 4 people to join the team each day. Please book your place in advance.
2) Observe - If you would just like to watch, there's no need to book. Justin and his team will be available from 10am to 2pm to answer your questions and to demonstrate the items they find.
The Big Dig is for adults only. Young people are welcome to join us on Saturday 30th August for our 'Unearthing the Past' family event.
