Guidance for BID levy businesses on Martyn's Law by counter‑terrorism policing specialist Steve Date
About this Event

Have you heard the term Martyn’s Law for years but still aren’t sure what it really means - or how it might impact your business? Martyn's Law, officially enacted as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, is UK legislation requiring publicly accessible venues and events to prepare for and reduce the risk of terrorist attacks. Named after Martyn Hett, one of the 22 victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the law is designed to improve public safety and emergency preparedness.

Join us for a clear, myth‑busting session led by counter‑terrorism policing specialist Steve Date, who will cut through confusion and provide the straightforward truth about the proposed legislation.

In this informative session, Steve will walk you through:

  • What Martyn’s Law is designed to achieve
  • The latest timelines and expectations
  • What actions may be legally required
  • What best‑practice steps you should consider, even if your premises is out of scope
  • How to begin preparing with confidence

You’ll also have the opportunity to put your questions directly to the expert, ensuring you leave with clarity, confidence, and practical next steps tailored to your organisation.

Whether you manage a venue, run events, or simply want to stay ahead of upcoming legislative changes, this session will equip you with the knowledge you need.

Tickets are free* for Cheltenham BID levy paying businesses with a maximum allocation of 2 tickets per business.

*While these tickets are free to attendees, please be aware that each one represents a real cost to the BID. We kindly ask that if you reserve a ticket, you honour your commitment to attend. No-shows prevent other businesses from taking advantage of the opportunity. Due to a high number of non-attendances at previous events, failure to cancel your ticket with at least 48 hours’ notice may result in restrictions on your ability to register for future events. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us deliver successful events for everyone.
