Bibliotherapy in the Gorhambury House Library with Nicole Moody

Pharoah Ramesses II: “the library is the healing house for the soul.”

Join us for an uplifting 2-hour workshop held in the Library at Gorhambury House. The Library contains volumes collected by generations of the Grimston family and includes works by Sir Francis Bacon. It is hard to conceive of a more inspiring and relaxing setting for an event dedicated to the transformative power of reading.

Led by an experienced bibliotherapist, the art of this ancient practice of reading for well-being will be revealed. We will explore the neurological benefits of reading as an antidote to the more superficial skim reading required as part of daily digital life.

Each participant will receive personal attention to gain a better sense of how to curate their own reading habits, choices and processes to help develop more clarity and self-knowledge, and better interpersonal relationships.

Bibliotherapy introduction and taster session, includes:

• A potted introduction to Bibliotherapy, and its unique strengths as a
  resource to encourage self-knowledge and growth
• A group activity focusing on our response to literature to help us
  reflect on our deeper selves
• A personal book recommendation for each participant

Refreshments will be provided.

Nicole is a faculty member at The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) in London since 2008, teaching an accredited Bibliotherapy course to American undergraduate students. Nicole also runs regular Introductory and Advanced Bibliotherapy courses and a Reading Plays for Wellbeing course at local independent bookstore, Books on the Hill, in St Albans.

Please note: There are stone steps and uneven floors throughout the house.

Arriving by car: Access from M1 (Junction 8) and M25 (Junction 21a). Please enter AL3 6AE into your GPS for the entrance at the Roman Theatre off Bluehouse Hill. Once at the gate enter AL3 6AH for the house, where there is ample parking.
