What would the experience of buoyancy be like on land?
During this five-class series, we will focus on the body as it bidirectionally orients itself in space. We will delve into the practice of contact improvisation through the notions of biotensegrity and the fluid system as explored in Body-Mind Centering. By exploring the movements that rise and fall, we create a dance-like quality that is bouncy, elastic, and resilient.
We will focus on the tonality of the body and how body tone affects our relationship to gravity, movement, and dance encounters. How can we avoid being too loose or too tight, but find a soft yet supportive structure as we move?
These classes are for anyone interested in working with the body and contact improvisation. The class series consists of five Saturdays, each lasting three hours. Each class ends with a longer jam session.
The sliding scale price for five sessions is 65-75 €, and attending a single class costs 15-20 €.

Maria Rutanen is a dance artist, choreographer, and dance teacher. Her movement practice intertwines various techniques such as Body-Mind Centering, instant composition, release technique, and contact improvisation. She holds an MA in Choreography from the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch / Inter-University Centre for Dance HZT Berlin. In addition, she has studied dance pedagogy, contemporary dance, performance and improvisation, as well as gender research in Finland and Germany. Maria teaches dance internationally to people from different backgrounds, of different ages and with different body capabilities.
