About this Event
The Bhagavad Gīta is a sacred Hindu text that is often studied by yoga practitioners because of its many references to yoga. This workshop will explore the yoga themes within the text through the lens of Yogasūtra: we will look for themes from the yogasūtra and note how they are presented differently through the lens of this Hindu text, and we will discuss how we can apply these ancient lessons to our everyday lives in a practical manner.
We will use Eknath Eswaran’s translation of the Bhagavad Gīta - please read beforehand to gain the most from this intensive. Some understanding of The Yogasūtra of Patañjali is also helpful but not required.
Kate began her Yoga education in 1991 as a student of T.K.V. Desikachar in Chennai, India. She returned many times for extended periods of intensive one-on-one study up until his death in 2016.
In addition to her extensive training in the therapeutic application of yoga, she enjoys studying and teaching Vedic chant, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, Nathamuni’s Yoga Rahasya, and other philosophical yoga texts.
In conjunction with her Yoga studies, Kate has studied Sanskrit at UC Berkeley, and the Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute (Madras Sanskrit College) in Chennai, India.
