Now that Krishna has explained to Arjuna (and us!) many of the details of selfless work, knowledge, renunciation of action and much more-- we need to turn inwards for a moment to begin the peeling away of the layers of ourselves and false identification with our ego. One of the best ways to do this is Meditation, or Dhyana. Hence, this chapter is titled "Dhyana Yoga". Many people mistakenly believe that meditation is only discussed in the Hatha yoga texts like the Yoga Sutras or Hatha Yoga Pradikipa. This is not the case and the Gita predates these texts by several centuries by most estimates! "Let a man lift himself by his own Self; let him not degrade himself".
For those who may be attending for the first time, we are using the Easwaran 2nd edition of the Gita for the study group. Additionally, we have posted videos of the previous sessions on our Facebook Group page.
