About this Event
The "pressure cooker" of academic and social expectations can often lead to overwhelming stress and anxiety for our students. When the drive for success outpaces emotional support, the results can be devastating for mental health.
Join us at the Darien Library where Scarlett Lewis, Darien native and Founder of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement, will lead a vital presentation on how to provide our youth with the "emotional armor" they need to thrive. Scarlett launched the Choose Love Movement after her son, Jesse, was murdered during the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in December 2012. She has since dedicated her life to a mission of proactive prevention: to empower every child and adult with essential life skills so that they are able to flourish, regardless of the challenges they face.
This session will explore how the Choose Love formula serves as a powerful solution for managing high-stress environments and improving long-term mental health.
Topics will include:
- Essential life skills: The most effective ways to combat stress, isolation, and mental health crises that have affected our community.
- Practical Solutions for Parents: How you can use these simple methods at home to help your kids navigate pressure and build lasting resilience.
- Creating a Safety Net: How cultivating compassion can transform culture and provide a protective layer for our most vulnerable neighbors.
- A Personal Journey: Hear from Ellie O’Kane, a Choose Love Movement Youth Ambassador and Darien resident, on how these specific Choose Love skills have made a daily, tangible impact on navigating the pressures of school and life in Darien.
The evening will conclude with a Q&A session. This is an open space for parents, students, and educators to talk directly with Scarlett and Ellie about how we can make choosing love a daily practice in our homes and schools.
