Beyond the Battlefield: Maryna Er Gorbach’s Klondike and the Remaking of War Cinema – a lecture by Yuliya V. Ladygina, Jacyk Distinguished Fellow at HURI and Associate Professor of Slavic and Global and International Studies at the Pennsylvania State University
Since 2014, Russia’s war against Ukraine has unfolded across territory, images, and political reality. In this lecture, Dr. Ladygina will argue that cinema has become an expanded battlefield beyond combat. Through Maryna Er Gorbach’s Klondike (2022), she will show how centering a pregnant heroine's embodied experience reveals unseen violence and resistance, expanding the war genre and shaping international understanding of the conflict.
