Beyond Silence: A Suicide Prevention Theatre Performance
About this Event
Beyond Silence: The Conversation We Need
Too many Black men are carrying struggles in silence.
Behind strength, responsibility, and the expectation to keep going, many men experience pressures that can affect their mental health and wellbeing. Beyond Silence is a powerful theatre performance and community engagement event that explores Black men’s mental health, suicide prevention, grief, belonging, connection, and the importance of seeking support.
This is not a traditional theatre performance. Through interactive participatory theatre, storytelling, and community dialogue, theBMC100 invites you to help create a space where lived experiences of loss, grief, suffering, resilience, reflection, and healing can be shared, witnessed, and transformed into collective understanding.
Together we will explore:
- The challenges affecting Black men’s mental health
- The barriers that prevent men from seeking support
- The impact of stigma, grief, and isolation
- How families, friends, communities, and organisations can respond better
- How we create environments where men feel heard, valued, and supported
The performance asks important questions: Whose sorrow gets named? Whose loss gets witnessed? Whose mourning is allowed to take up space?
Through conversation, reflection, and shared experiences, we aim to move beyond silence and towards prevention, hope, connection, and change.
This event is for Black men, families, community members, professionals, organisations, and anyone committed to improving mental health outcomes and creating more compassionate communities.
