About this Event
The only thing scarier than the metro tunnels? Hungarian customer service.
Step into the underworld of Budapest’s iconic metro system with Kontroll (Control), a cult classic that defined a new era of Hungarian filmmaking. On 9 December, Beyond Kino returns to the Liszt Institute with Nimród Antal’s electrifying debut — a film that blends thriller, comedy, social satire, and pure urban mythology into something unmistakably its own.
Set entirely underground, Kontroll follows a rag-tag crew of ticket inspectors navigating night shifts, strange characters, impossible bureaucracy, and the darker corners of human nature. It’s gritty, playful, stylish, and surprisingly emotional — the kind of film that grips you first with atmosphere and then stays with you for days.
This screening is part of Beyond Kino’s mission to bring Hungarian cult cinema to London in a welcoming, accessible way. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering this film for the first time, join the growing community for an evening where cinema sparks conversation, curiosity, and connection.
As always, the screening is free, but registration is essential. Beyond Kino will also share a short digital mini-magazine beforehand to give a bit of background, context, and fun details to look out for during the film.
We can’t wait to see you underground.
