Pocomoke State Forest - Furnace Town/Nazareth Ch. Trails | Salisbury, MD
Let's get together for a day on the trails and support a great cause! We'll be meeting in the Furnace Town parking lot to ride the Pocomoke State Forest Old Furnace trails on Sunday December 15th; ride out starts at 10:00 a.m.
Riders are asked to please bring donations from the list on the flyer included in the discussion to benefit Seton Center Catholic Charities' newly opened Bethany House shelter for homeless and displaced individuals and families as well as food items for the Seton Center's food pantry.
Seton Center Catholic Charities is located in the town of Princess Anne and serves the surrounding communities with a variety of much-needed resources. Bethany House is the newest addition to the services they provide and serves the homeless and displaced in the area, filling a gap that has existed since the county shelter closed it's doors several years ago.
There is no fee for this ride, and riders ride on their own, and at their own risk. The trails will be clearly marked with red ornaments at all intersections. Just remember to keep the ornaments on your right and follow them all the way through. We will follow the traditional " night ride loop " that I have used in years past, which is about a 6 and 1/2 mi loop for about a 2-hour ride.
Then join us back in the parking lot afterwards and warm up with a potluck lunch with grilled hot dogs and hot beverages. We will also be selling baked goods and collecting cash donations to go to Furnace Town who is so graciously allowing us the use of their parking lot.
The money raised there will be for parking lot maintenance and upkeep. Furnace Town, which relies solely on donations, memberships, and private fundraising, does not charge equestrian users permits or other fees for the use of their parking area, and so it is important that we support them and help provide resources for maintaining the parking area.
Riders are asked to please clean up after their horses in the parking lot and take their manure home with them. Furnace Town staff asks that we do not throw manure into the woods or leave it in the parking area. Also, if your horse paws at the trailer please be sure to rake up and fill in any holes that they dig.
In short, let's be sure we leave it better than we found it 😊
Posts will be put up in the event discussion for potluck lunch items, ride route maps, requested/most needed items for donation, and general questions.
Because of the proximity to the Holidays, THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATE SCHEDULED FOR THIS EVENT. Should the event be canceled due to inclement weather, arrangements will be made for pick up of donations and directions will be given for how to directly drop donations off at Seton Center.
