In this enlightening look at one of the greatest classical music figures of the 20th-Century, director Douglas Tirola mines a rich trove of interviews, television appearances, home movie footage, photos, and letters to craft a comprehensive look at Leonard Bernstein, whose passion and drive took him well beyond the marvelous music he wrote and conducted. Told in his own voice, Bernstein’s Wall explores Leonard Bernstein’s journey as an artist and fighter for social change, who inspired through his work. The film details Bernstein's personal life and struggles, his unyielding support for the anti-war and civil rights movements, and his passion for music to paint a complex portrait of a complex, driven man who produced some of the most memorable music of his time. Douglas Tirola is an award-winning director and producer whose documentaries have premiered at major international film festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, Berlin, Hot Docs, and SXSW. His directing credits include Bloodroot, Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead, Brewmaster, the James Beard Award–nominated Hey Bartender, and the Grand Jury Award–winning All In: The Poker Movie. His first feature documentary as a director, An Omar Broadway Film, premiered at Tribeca and was acquired by HBO. As a producer, his credits include Procession, Bisbee ’17; Kate Plays Christine; Actress; and Making the Boys. Douglas has also worked as a screenwriter for Paramount, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Sony, and New Line, and early in his career worked with directors Woody Allen, Robert Benton, and Penny Marshall. He began in the film industry as a production assistant on When Harry Met Sally, and is currently president of 4th Row Films.
