Advance Care Planning
Advance care planning is the process of thinking about and documenting your preferences for future healthcare in case you become unable to communicate your decisions. It involves discussing your wishes with loved ones and healthcare providers, and often includes preparing legal documents like a living will or naming a healthcare proxy. The goal is to ensure that your medical care aligns with your values and preferences, especially during serious illness or at the end of life.
About the Documentary
Author and surgeon Atul Gawande explores how doctors care for terminally ill patients, highlighting how many doctors—including Gawande himself—struggle to talk candidly with their dying patients.
