About this Event
Join us for a flavoursome walking journey through Geylang Serai Market, celebrating Singapore's UNESCO‑inscribed hawker culture and the everyday efforts that keep our public dining spaces clean and welcoming. Curated in support of Clean & Green Singapore, this tour brings NEA's hygiene and shared responsibility messages to life.
Learn how hawker centres evolved from 1950s and 1960s street hawking to today's network of over 120 centres equipped with proper facilities, resettling thousands of street hawkers and improving public health. Along the way, you will hear stories of Geylang Serai's history, community life and the role of hawker centres as important social spaces for Singapore residents.
On the ground, you will witness how the collective efforts of diners, cleaners and hawker centre operators work in harmony to maintain clean tables, hygienic public toilets and effective refuse management in preventing rodent and pest infestations. You will also learn how the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) supports recycling of drink containers. Together, these efforts support a clean, safe and sustainable environment for all.
This tour is ideal for food lovers, culture enthusiasts and anyone interested in how individual actions contribute to cleaner, greener public spaces.
Experience how hawker heritage, public hygiene and sustainability come together in the heart of Geylang Serai, and play your part in keeping Singapore clean and green.
