About this Event
Vectors are organisms that transmit diseases. The five main vectors in Singapore are mosquitoes, cockroaches, flies, rats and rat fleas. The diseases they spread include dengue, typhus, leptospirosis, cholera and typhoid.
NEA monitors vector populations through surveillance and enforcement. For rats, the key to controlling their numbers is proper refuse management. Join us to gain a deeper understanding of the public health threats posed by rats, and learn about the vital roles that premises owners and residents can play for an effective rat control programme.
Participants will get to see how NEA’s surveillance checks on refuse management practices are conducted in residential estates and town centres, as well as the hard work and dedication of Town Council workers in maintaining a clean living environment for all. By the end of the session, we hope participants will have a new appreciations of the importance of proper waste disposal and how they can play a positive part to impact on our community's health, hygiene, and cleanliness standards.
This tour requires extensive walking over a selection of day or night routes.
