Bellydance is fun, beautiful, and empowering! At Akashic Moves Bellydance, we are also a fellowship of awesome people who build each other up!💪💖🥰 Whether you're boisterous or shy, young or old, experienced or a brand new dancer, you are welcome at Akashic Moves Studios. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED, we start at the very beginning, and you CAN bellydance! Also, whether you're looking for a fun exercise class, a new tribe of amazing women, great belly dance technique from a talented, Master Belly Dance Teacher, or all the above - you'll find it in our dance classes!
Our main style at Akashic Moves Bellydance is Global Caravan Tribal which is a powerful, earthy bellydance full of shimmies and big hip movements! It also is a heart and community centered bellydance; building connections, and confidence.
Our steps and combinations are built from the folkloric and community dances of the Middle East, including but not limited to, Egypt, Turkey, and the matriarchal Amazigh (Berber) of Morocco; folkloric steps and community dances from Spain and from India; and a few touches of American Cabaret and Modern Dance.
Akasha Mae, Director/Instructor of Akashic Moves Studios, is a certified Master Teacher of Global Caravan Dance, one of only 11 in the world, with more than 25 years experience belly dancing in several styles, and more than 14 years teaching Global Caravan and Tribal Fusion Bellydance. Akasha also has a life long background in both dance and music, classical and modern.

Frequently Asked Questions:
* What do I wear?
Wear clothes you can move and stretch in (like those you'd wear to a yoga or aerobics class.) Bring water, and a hip scarf if you've got it (except full coin scarves, which are too loud in a full class. We also have plenty to borrow!) Most of us dance barefoot, but dance or tennis shoes can be worn, if needed.
* Where is the studio location? Any Parking information?
The Akashic Moves Bellydance studio is located in the Hoppie building at 1524 S Vista, Boise, 83705. (At the corner of Overland and Vista, on Vista, next to the Jimmy John's.)
Come in the middle door that faces Vista, and we're at the top of the stairs!
If the parking next to the building is full, there is more available behind the little restaurant and Scooter store. [It is labeled "employee parking" for Wells Fargo, but everyone using the Hoppie Building is allowed to park there]
* Are there any age or size limits?
All ages and sizes of adult women are welcome! Please don't let self-doubt stop you from doing something fun and beautiful. Our bellydance builds up your strength, balance, mobility, and confidence, all at the same time. Everyone learns and progresses at a different pace, and all learning styles and speeds can be accommodated, as well as physical limitations. You can pm Akasha with any other concerns or questions.
* What about Teenagers? Kids' class? Men and other genders?
Teenagers are most often welcome, especially when accompanied by an adult. With 12 and under, it's a bit more case by case, based on whether there are any active kid classes, and the maturity and attention span of the kiddo in question.
Men and other genders: Akasha and Akashic Moves bellydance consider themselves safe places and very open to genuine individuals who would like to explore this dance style and family. Having said that, starting classes at the studio is very individual and case by case, as we must also consider the comfort and safety of the other dancers already participating. Please reach out to Akasha, personally, if you are interested and/or have any worries or questions surrounding this topic.
(PS: We strive for the studio to be safe and welcoming in order that everyone can feel safe to be their truest selves, and also understand that not everyone even has all of that figured out yet! That's okay, too. People that may be more judgmental, in the regular or office worlds, don't tend to last long in our group. We support love and unity and perform regularly at events and locations that actively support those underserved in our common society.)
** For more information or questions, you may reach out to Akasha Mae directly, or post more general questions in the event page. We are looking forward to dancing with you! 💃🏼**
