Our beginner sewing classes are a little different from a regular class - we teach sewing rules, and then how to break them! (well, some of them)Learning to sew gives you the ability to not only make something from scratch, but to mend, alter or upcycle existing garments and other textiles. In this 21 hour course run over 7 weeks, we incorporate upcycling techniques and materials. It's aimed at people who would like to significantly increase their sewing skills, and is perfect for people with no or limited sewing ability, a real 'back to basics' class. Some of the skills and techniques we cover include:sewing machine set up and usesimple construction techniques including different seams, hems and casingssewing pockets - patch and in-seam exposed zipper insertionTechniques will be incorporated into projects including: Pen/pencil wrap (can also be used for tools, cutlery, make-up brushes etc)Drawstring backpackElastic waistband pants with pocketsZippered toiletries/makeup bagAll materials, patterns and use of equipment is included in course fee. You can bring your own machine and sewing kit, or you're welcome to use ours. This course runs on Wednesday afternoons 12.30 till 3.30, from February 18th till April 1st.Our workshops: All of our classes and workshops are created using circular economy principles. This means we love using many recycled and reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery items for our projects. We are deeply passionate about diverting textile waste from landfill and we do this through upcycling.
