Maître incontesté de la symphonie, Beethoven a marqué la musique comme peu de compositeurs ont pu le faire. Dans un véritable marathon musical de quatre concerts en trois jours, Yannick Nézet-Séguin livre sa vision de ces œuvres fondatrices du répertoire pour orchestre qui ne laissent personne indifférent, même 250 ans plus tard. Une intégrale inoubliable!
Deux ou trois symphonies de Beethoven composent chacun des programmes, complétés par une création de l’un des lauréats du concours de composition Héritage Beethoven présenté par Power Corporation du Canada en 2020, initiative lancée par l’OM et son directeur artistique. Ces jeunes compositeurs apportent ainsi une perspective moderne sur l’influence de Beethoven sur le monde d’aujourd’hui et sur les thèmes sociaux et politiques qui habitent son œuvre.
Au programme, la clé de voûte du style symphonique de Beethoven : l’élégance lumineuse de la Symphonie n° 2, suivie de la colossale Symphonie n° 3 « Eroica ». De l’une à l’autre, le compositeur chemine d’un classicisme le rapprochant du style de Mozart et Haydn à un éclatement de la forme qui marquera une rupture totale avec le passé. Une parfaite introduction pour comprendre le génie de Beethoven.

Each program will feature two or three Beethoven symphonies, rounded out by the premiere of a piece written by a winner of the Beethoven Heritage competition, presented by Power Corporation of Canada in 2020, an initiative spearheaded by the OM and its artistic director. These young composers bring a modern perspective to Beethoven’s influence on today’s world and to his work’s social and political themes.
Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral,” will transport you from the hustle and bustle of the city to the rolling hills of the countryside. The piece echoes contemporary environmental concerns, evoking the fragility of our natural surroundings. With its ominous second movement, the epic Symphony No. 7 is one of the most evocative pieces in the repertoire. From the deep woods to high drama, get ready for an escape from your day-to-day.
