About this Event
Held deep in the woods between the lovely Heartwood and Mrs Burney's Bees Apiary, Suzy and Debbie are offering a Bee Well Experience, involving woodland yoga, a camp fire circle, and a unique opportunity to spend time connecting and meditating with the bees.
Listen to the soft hum as the bees go about their busy work, watch them returning to the hive with pollen stores to feed the colony, and smell the delicious honey and wax. After our meditation session at the apiary, we will look inside a hive to ask the bees if we can take some of their honey. We will then bring the honey to the fire circle and eat it straight from the comb on toast.
This day retreat is for those who wish to connect more deeply with nature, whilst moving and opening up their bodies with a beautiful yoga practice.
The yoga classes are gentle, yet robust, nurturing and gently working to bring body and mind into union and balance. Suitable for anyone at any stage on the path, Suzy can tailor the sessions to the needs of the individuals attending. If you are new, we go slow, if you have an established practice you will be offered opportunities to move more deeply in your asanas. There will also be season-specific pranayama (breath work) practices offered as part of the experience.
There will also be the opportunity to buy beautiful beeswax candles as a memento of your day.
If you'd like to know more about the yoga please do get in touch with Suzy for a chat. [email protected] / 07729769663 or if you have any bee related questions you can chat to Debbie on [email protected] / 07810172938
Things to note
Please be aware that whilst the yoga space is on level ground, it is uneven in the way a woodland floor will be! There are both grass and woodland surfaces which we can use, so be prepared for a little dampness, and dirt (all part of the nature reconnection journey!) and make sure you bring a mat and equipment which you don't mind getting a little dirty.
Heartwood (where we will be holding our camp fire circle and yoga) is at the top of the woods which is about a 15 minute gentle stroll uphill from the car park. Please also be aware that the Apiary is a 10 minute stroll back down to the bottom of the woods, so there will be some walking involved in the day. We would like these days to be as accessible as possible, so if you have any issues that we can help with, please give us a call beforehand to discuss options.
We also recommend you bring lots of layers of clothing and a blanket or two. We anticipate a beautiful warm day, but it may also be a little chilly - particularly as we sit / lie in stillness. There will be tarp shelters to practice under if the weather is a little wet, but if the weather is really wet or windy, we may need to cancel. We will let you know by 8am on the day if this is likely to happen. Weather forecasting apps are often inaccurate, and we prefer to use our own common sense where weather is concerned!
If in the event we have to cancel, we will offer full refunds.
Please bring a yoga mat and any equipment you like to use, such as blocks, bricks, belts, bolsters and blankets. (All the 'b's!) If you dont know what we mean, don't worry, we have some we can lend :)
You will be asked to complete an information form prior to attending if you are not already registered with Wildheart Yoga.
Thank you and we look forward to spending some deeply restorative WellBee-ing time with you :)
Suzy is the founder of Go Wild With Us UK, and in 2018 started her yoga training after a lifetime's connection with yoga and over 15 years of dedicated personal practice - mainly in the Iyengar tradition with Bernadette Corrigan - and living a yogic lifestyle. She became qualified in early 2019 via a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified course with the wonderful 'Live Love Yoga'.
Suzy's classes have a strong focus on alignment and gentle holds of asanas, however she also loves to gently free flow and experiment with ways of connecting the body and mind with the breath. You will find a light heartedness in her teaching style and also often find the quiet influences of Yoga Nidra in the classes. A lifelong advocate of working in nature to reconnect people of all ages with their natural environment, the yoga will always be rooted in the ancient rhythms of nature, with themes emerging which reflect the seasons, and the context in which we live our lives.
Debbie is an experienced beekeeper, with a background in teaching. She is the founder and head of Mrs Burneys Bee Club CIC since 2020 with an initial dream of bringing the transformative powers of beekeeping to the children of Croydon. Their aim is to ‘educate and inspire people through the world of bees, so they are made more confident, curious and engaged with their environment.’
This amazing work has grown to include families and adults, as it became clear that being around the bees was restorative, mindful and deeply healing for both adults and children alike.
Debbie and Suzy have often partnered up to deliver beekeeping sessions to children with Go Wild With Us UK CIC, then in early 2024 they decided to try to combine their skills to offer this wonderful and unique opportunity for wellbee-ing!
We hope you have a wonderful day with us, and learn to love and appreciate the bees and yoga as much as we do!
