Elias dreams of building a boat from scrap metal, chasing the shadow of his sailor father’s legacy. But as his creation crumbles, so does the myth he’s built around himself—forcing him to confront the fragile truth of who he really is.
Hastings Own, Aristotelis Maragkos is a writer/director whose work focuses on obsessive stories and dealing with the past. His films experiment with different forms and materials and have screened in festivals around the world including Telluride, Locarno, and Annecy. The film premiered at the 66th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (International Competition), where it was awarded the Silver Alexander for Best Director, as well as the Cinematography Award. It has since screened internationally, including at BAFICI, Istanbul and the Cairo International Film Festival.
Critically, the film has been described as “haunting and evocative”, engaging with themes of identity, failure and the mythology of the sea.
Aristotelis Maragkos is an award-winning Athenian writer, director, and animator who works out of Hastings, East Sussex. He is well-known for his experimental collage-film The Timekeepers of Eternity, which repurposes found footage through a unique paper-animation technique.
