Be THE Hero - For French speaking youth
About this Event
This camp will be in French.
Today, many young people experience racism, exclusion, or bullying… yet most school workshops about the subject only last one hour and for the entire school year.
It can feel like lighting a fire… only for it to cool down right away.
At GP Scty, we believe these important conversations need more time, practice, and safe spaces in order to create lasting impact.
That is why we are creating an innovative and unique one week summer camp combining:
🎭 Improvisation and Theatre
🧱 Lego Play
🎬 Stop Motion
✏️ Comic creation
Through games, storytelling, creative projects, and role play, youth will learn how to:
- recognize and respond to racism and bullying without violence
- better manage emotions in difficult situations
- build self-confidence
- practice empathy and allyship
- develop new creative and collaborative skills
On the last day of camp, families will be invited to a small exhibition showcasing the participants’ creations: comic books, Lego projects, and stop-motion videos made during the week.
The participants will also present a short improvisational performance to share the tools, ideas, and strategies they’ve learned and practiced to address racism and bullying. 💛
The Comic Book will be printed and exposed to their school library so they can share their experience with other kids! 🧑🤝🧑 🧑🤝🧑 🧑🤝🧑 🧑🤝🧑
The camp will take place:
📅 French speaking cohort : August 17 to 21th
📅 English speaking : August 24 to 28th
📍 Langara College
🕘 Full-day program (approximately 9am–4)
👧🏽 For youth ages 8–12
👥 Maximum 20 participants per group
The timing is intentional: just before the new school year begins, so youth can return to school feeling more confident, emotionally equipped, and better prepared to navigate difficult situations.
The camp will also be supported by volunteers and a variety of creative activities to create a positive, human, and engaging experience for participants.
💛 We also believe that parents should not have to pay for their children’s emotional safety.
Unfortunately, GP Scty does not currently have grant funding to fully support this initiative.
We are workind hard to run the camp and apply to grants with the feedback we will receive from Parents and Youth.
