About this Event
Join the BAYCAT community for a showcase of inspired, socially-minded media!
BAYCAT's Spring Media Showcase will feature various short films produced by young people ages 11-18, and feature the reels of our Spring 2026 Film Essentials intern cohort.
Our introductory filmmaking students produced, shot, and edited the narrative short film, the Lost World, written by 7th grader Arely Guillen of the Youth Cinema Project, in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, our Open Lab students developed the narrative short film Tough Love, written and directed by Thisbe Weld, about a young person who misreads a social interaction, and the experimental documentary short The Skyluck, which traces the harrowing immigration journey of director Katelyn Wong’s mother from Vietnam on the boat The Skyluck using original poetry and animation.
The Film Essentials Internship focused on introducing emerging creatives (18+) to foundational technical skills in filmmaking, focusing on lighting, camera, sound, and editing, while also guiding interns through pre-production, production, and post-production workflows. Throughout the program, interns shot, produced, and edited short form projects, applying their newfound skills, many of which you will see highlighted in their reels. Through their reels, viewers will get to learn more about each intern, their creative style, roles of interest, and get a peek into their internship experience!
Please join us on Thursday, May 21st, as these talented artists debut their films and share their artistic process.
A Q&A and reception will follow the screenings.
