What: Johnson County residents can recycle household batteries at no cost at this week-long event. Batteries accepted include alkaline, rechargeable, lithium, button, and coin cell batteries. Car or boat batteries are not accepted. Batteries from businesses or outside of the Johnson County service area are not accepted. Visit www.icgov.org/battery for more information.
Where: Iowa City Senior Center lower level front desk, 28 S. Linn St., Iowa City
When: Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31 during regular open hours:
Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
These bins are only to be used for battery disposal. Please do not place lightbulbs, regular trash, sharps, syringes, or electronics in the battery bins.
Batteries should not be placed in the regular garbage or recycling. Improper disposal of batteries in the regular garbage or recycling is a leading cause of landfill and recycling facility fires. Prevent fires and the release of hazardous chemicals in the local environment by properly recycling batteries.
Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions. Visit www.icgov.org/battery for year-round battery recycling program information.
This event is hosted by the Iowa City Landfill and the Iowa City Senior Center.
