Are you feeling batty? Come celebrate the only flying mammals — bats! The evening will be filled with fun, educational activities, talks, and crafts designed to help you better appreciate these amazing aerial acrobats!

🦇 Tonight's Schedule:
Presentations in the Warden Oasis Theater:
6:30 p.m. Basically Bats
Are bats flying rodents? Are they blind? Do they fly into people’s hair? If you find yourself unsure of these and other bat-related questions, join us for a talk by Crystal Holcombe, one of the Desert Museum's very own Keepers to learn all about these incredible flying mammals.
8:00 p.m. What About Bats?
Hear from Susan Chappel, Kartchner Caverns State Park Ranger, as she covers bat myths, how closely they are like us, how they contribute to our ecosystems, and how we can help. In addition to being a Park Ranger, Susan is also is a Bat Ambassador with Bat Conservation International (BCI). She introduced BCI-endorsed Bat Walks at Kartchner Caverns — an environmental education program designed to introduce families to the world of bats and the important role they play in the ecosystem, held monthly from April through September. Susan organizes the park's annual Bat Fest and has served on the BCI Bat Week Committee since 2023. She believes "education is key, because we fear what we don't understand and we will only protect what we love."
Live Music on the Ironwood Patio:
6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Groove to the jazz sounds of Unified Field Theory.
Throughout the Night:
Look for Museum Docents around grounds interpreting live animals, celestial desert skies, fluorescent minerals, bats, kissing bugs, scorpions, rattlesnakes, and more!
6:00 - 9:30 p.m. Stingray Touch Exhibit
Admission: $2 Members / $4 Non-Members
Visitors are able to create their own moments with these captivating creatures at the Stingray Touch experience. The pool features cow nose stingrays that guests can interact with. Be touched by a ray!
6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Packrat Playhouse
This indoor play space allows children to discover the desert through the eyes of a packrat! Packrat Playhouse may reach capacity. 30-minute reserved play times are available at the Packrat Playhouse entrance.
6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Art Exhibits
'Sonoran Treasures' is on view in the Ironwood Gallery. Through this juried selection of 2D and 3D works, the Southern Arizona Arts Guild (SAAG) examines the interconnected relationships between flora, fauna, and the distinctive geology of the Southwest. 'Sonoran Treasures' takes an intimate look at the rich diversity of plants and animals that define the Sonoran Desert, fostering a deeper appreciation for the desert and encouraging thoughtful stewardship of its remarkable yet vulnerable landscape.
Signature Drink — Bat Bite: Malibu, Cold Brew Coffee, Vanilla Syrup

🌙 ABOUT COOL SUMMER NIGHTS:
Open till 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays June–August! Cool Summer Nights is included with Museum Admission.
The Desert Museum is lovely during the day, but it’s even cooler after dark! Join us every Saturday night throughout the summer to beat the heat while learning something neat! The desert comes alive at night as nocturnal animals awake: Bats perform aerial acrobatics in pursuit of dinner, otters splash around in their pond, and scorpions glow green under black light. Bring your flashlight and explore, grab a refreshing drink and wander, experience a live animal encounter, scamper in Packrat Playhouse, feel the touch of a stingray, or participate in special nightly activities.
