Come look for bats while detecting their calls on this guided hike!
Step into the world of bats! These nocturnal creatures live their lives in darkness. When hunting, they use high frequency calls to locate their prey.
On this guided hike, follow a ranger while using an EcoMeter, a device that detects the ultrasonic bat calls that humans cannot hear!
Pro tip: Make a day-use reservation ahead of time to ensure entry into the park. THEN email Ranger Kate at [email protected] to secure your spot on this program! In your email, include how many participants you're signing up and if there any are minors. Thank you!
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Date: Saturday, October 3
Meet: Equestrian Parking, near Russell Creek Equestrian Campground
Distance: This route is about 1-mile round trip. We will take Buttonbush Trail up to the Tucker Lake Dam and down to Mesquite Grove, and back. This trail gravely the entire way with an incline up to and down from the dam.
Bring: Good hiking shoes, plenty of water, and a redlight flashlight
