When the sun goes down, Hartland Marsh comes alive. Bats emerge to hunt insects, owls begin calling, frogs and toads fill the air with their songs, and countless other nocturnal animals become active under the cover of darkness.
Join the Ice Age Trail Alliance and the Waukesha County Land Conservancy on Monday, August 17, at 7:30 p.m. for an evening bat walk at Hartland Marsh. We'll hike approximately 1.5 miles along the Ice Age Trail while using bat monitoring equipment to detect and identify the bat species flying overhead. Along the way, we'll also keep an eye and ear out for the many other creatures that make the marsh come alive at night.
The walk begins and ends at the Cottonwood Wayside, 901 Cottonwood Avenue, Hartland, WI 53029. Parking lot coordinates are 43.08784° N, 88.35005° W. This program is open to all ages. Please leave pets at home, and watch for the yellow Ice Age Trail Event sign.
