BASICS: Spindle Turning

This class will cover basic wood lathe operations for spindle turning.

The instructor will outline the steps involved in preparing spindle blanks, how to safely fix your piece on the wood lathe, some of the major tools involved in wood turning, and making basic cuts with the various gouges.

Class attendees will then get hands-on practice with these tools through making a simple spindle.

Successful completion of this course will qualify members to use the Lathe independently for spindle turning at LMS.

Starting July 19th 2025 we will be instituting a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. This fee is being instituted because we have had a pattern of members not showing up to our classes. Our classes have a limited amount of slots and we want to serve as many attendees as possible.

Closed-toed shoes are required at all times at the Lacey MakerSpace.

*Liability Waiver must be signed in person at the front desk before participating in any activities at the Lacey MakerSpace.

LMS provides all necessary safety gear, including safety glasses and other PPE. Hearing protection is mandatory for participants under 18 while in the woodshop.
