Basic Abdominal and Pelvic Scanning
This one day course introduces you to the scanning protocol of the abdomen and the male and female pelvis. You will learn to produce and interpret images of the normal abdominal/pelvic anatomy as an aid in recognising changes which indicate pathology. Ultrasound is the examination of choice for confirming the diagnosis of many abdominal pathologies. Although abdominal gas and patient habitus may cause technical problems, it is still possible, with suitable training and experience, to produce and analyse high quality sonographic images for normal and abnormal appearances. Transabdominal scanning of the pelvis is of use in the detection of common anomalies such as benign prostatic hyperplasia in males and uterine myomata, pelvic cysts and other adnexal pathology in females.
