Spring Barnkalas is coming! Their Excellencies, Conrad and Furia, invite the children of Dragon's Laire (and their grown ups) to celebrate Spring at an event planned just for them. This is a kids-centric event and all events are designed with child participation in mind! There will be Arts and Sciences, Bardic, our Youth Armored Combat Championship, and a dragon egg hunt. We will be having a pot luck lunch feast, and an ice cream sundae bar provided by the Barony.
This event is on May 9th, opens at 10:00AM, and closes at 6:00PM.
Gate fee is free for all ages.
The event is FREE for all who attend, however, we strongly encourage pre-registration as space is limited.
Only ADA service animals are allowed inside the event building.
Schedule:
The A&S competition will start the day at 11 (with prep at 10AM). It is very open format, for the most accessibility. The goal is for kids to share their interests, learn about each other, and maybe spark curiosity! If your kid has an entry in mind that is not in one of these categories, they are very welcome to do so. Cited references are encouraged but not required. Make sure to have your kid's project labeled with their name and age. There will be a popular choice vote from kids and adults using the bead voting system.
There will be A&S activities throughout the day.
Court will be held at 12:30PM
Feast & Bardic: there will be a potluck feast at 1PM and there will be a Bardic activity during the feast. Each child will have a chance to make a short bardic presentation, such as a joke, riddle, or short song.
Egg Hunt: The Dragons of the Laire have lost their eggs and are in need of the children to help find them! The hunt begins after the feast.
Youth Armored Combat: There will be a YAC tournament at 3:30PM. All participants will be expected to be in armor at that time.
Arts and Sciences competition suggestions:
Draw! Draw a picture inspired by a medieval source.
Examples: Paint a picture based on an illuminated manuscript, paint a charter, or make a scribal trading card. Draw an outfit based on your favorite garb for a paper doll. Make a picture of a siege weapon.
Write! Write a story, essay, or poem about a medieval person place or thing that you think is interesting.
Examples: Tell us about something that medieval people did that you think is interesting, weird, silly or dangerous! Tell your readers about what Romans used to eat. Write a story about what a Norse person might do in their day. Describe a historical musical instrument. Write a poem about ballista bolts.
Make! Bring something you've made inspired by the medieval era. Examples: a length of kumihimo, finger braiding, or lucet cord. Some trim from an inkle loom or card woven band. A segment of naalbinding, a pinch pot, a piece of tooled leather. Make a shoe! Try
book binding. Show us your embroidery. Carve a spoon.
Paper and art supplies will be provided if you wish to draw or write something at the event.
