Barista Skills Foundation

What does it take to be a good barista? A solid foundation of knowledge and barista skills.

Learn the recommended process for brewing espresso using various recipes. Then practice pulling shots. We’ll taste the results and discuss the effects of both properly and improperly prepared espresso.

There's more to great espresso drinks than just the coffee. We'll also learn how to adjust an espresso grinder to achieve delicious results. Students will practice steaming milk and then use all of their new skills to create various espresso-based beverages.

Basic maintenance is important, so we'll also talk about how to clean espresso machines and grinders.

• No prior experience is necessary, though completing Introduction to Coffee is strongly recommended.
• Successful course completion and a short online written exam qualifies the learner for the Specialty Coffee Association’s Barista Foundation certificate. Certificate fees are included in the price of the class.
