Band Showcase: Graceful Guys, Pierre is Dreaming + Collide
Three great local bands perform at Maryland Meadworks on Saturday August 8 -- the first of TWO August band showcases! Doors open 6:30 and here's the lineup:
The night starts with THE GRACEFUL GUYS: an amalgamation of talented, inspired, and creative musicians working to recreate the magic of great songs, while adding their own twist to them. They perform everything from blues, rock, pop, and r&b, and like to often mix these with each other too. Come see them play if you love odd time signatures and unusual harmonies, or are a fan of pop music. Next up: PIERRE IS DREAMING with Annette Wasilik, Brad Gladstone and Rich Morey: Annette has been writing songs ever since she found a Sears Silvertone abandoned in a tin wardrobe in the basement when she was 14. "Songwriting," Annette says, "is like diving for pearls. I sink down and let my emotions lead into melody which leads to phrasing and lyrics. Later the editing comes in." She began performing locally but when her daughter was small, Annette stopped, turning her focus to building a massage practice and caring for her family. Later when she was able to turn her full attention to her music, she dug in. Her debut album, Songs from the Talking House won Contemporary Folk Recording of the Year from The Washington Area Music Association in 2016. Her 2020 recording, Love & Fire released at #6 on the FolkDJ chart and #1 on the NACC chart and landed #40 on Folk DJ chart for the year.

We'll close out the night with COLLIDE, an acoustic duo that plays songs you know and others you’ll want to remember. More than the sum of their parts, Catherine & Daniel together play guitar, cello, bass, cajon, and mandolin - with vocals that are “haunting,” “powerful,” and “soulful.” Their debut album, Union Station, reached #16 on the Folk Alliance Chart and #15 on the North American College & Community Radio chart. Collide offers a “fresh and fun new sound that will make you want to slow down and enjoy the seasons.” (Tony Mora, KUNM Radio)
