Ride and Feast on Vietnamese Food... MARC train home!
What is Eden Center? It is AMAZING! https://edencenter.com/about/
--63.5 miles total with 80% on trails and bike lanes. There is only one 700-foot section that is sketchy at all (and it really isn't on weekends)
-- Average speed 14-16mph (wind "can" be a factor along the Anacostia River, but with a group, it is no problem)
-- Longest road section is WB&A Blvd, but it is residential, low speed limit, lots of 4-way stops, and the homeowners there are VERY kind and respectful of cyclists! It is also not a cut-through or shortcut to anywhere.
SPECIFICS :
1. 8:00am -- Light Rail to BWI (this avoids all the glass and nails riding out of town, and saves 10 miles). Meet at Convention Center Station -- Light Rail. We will catch the next train to BWI. ($2)
2. Trails -- BWI + WB&A + Anacostia Trails to DC (enter DC near Nationals Park so we ride through the Cherry Blossoms area). The route is VERY bike-friendly, and very pretty! Rider at the back will have Garmin Radar on road sections.
3. To NOVA -- Mt Vernon + Custis + Old Dominion trails -- All trails/bike Paths to Eden Center... This section is mostly uphill, but the payoff is food! EAT EAT EAT!
4. We will stop for a coffee/pick me up at the DC District Wharf area on the way to Eden Center. There are multiple well-spaced areas for water refills and bathroom breaks if necessary prior to that. Stops will be brief to allow a relaxed time at Eden Ctr.
5. Bike to Union Station for the MARC Train home. This is all downhill and flat! ($9)
