Try some of the basic folk chain dances that Balkan countries share or dive deeper in Bulgarian folk dances.
Keep active and enjoy rich traditional music from the Balkans. Balkan folk dances are traditional chain dances with repetitive patterns - no partner is required. This is not Bregovich music! :) Starting date: March 20th but see also the bonus below.
Please note: * Offer for 3 visits is valid for new visitors only! If you have tried before and would like to visit, buy the full membership option.
If you book closer to the end of March, you can use your visits in April .
** Please bring a clean pair of soft sole shoes that you will use only in the studio (details below)
You are not expected to dance for the whole visit, especially during the first few. You can decide by yourself. Book here only for the first day when you will attend, after that it is not necessary. (The offer includes 3 visits in the period March - April 2026).
*** No practice on March 11th and 13th.
NEW OPPORTUNITY - THE BASICS! What does it mean?
Make your first steps or simply enjoy Balkan folk dances. I have selected dances (hora) that will give you a solid basis of movements / patterns to develop your dancing skills. We will focus on some of the well known dances, as well as less popular in modern days.
Some rhythmic experience (from any stage of your life) and coordination can be useful as these classes are suitable for adults. There is rhythm even in jogging... Simple patterns are in the base of each dance and I will explain them in details. As we repeat them through the dance, it becomes eaiser to learn and enjoy. Each dance is with duration of 2-3 minutes. You will survive! :)
BONUSES for the most active ones and the early birds:
- You can come on March 6th for free, whether you buy 3 or 6 visits. But hurry up - Friday is near!
- You can visit the classes on Wednesdays for free with your 6 visits membership. (See below what you can expect).
On Fridays, the level of the participants is beginners/improvers. Tempo of the dances is slow to moderate. There are repetitions of some explanations and clarifications.
On Wednesdays, in the first part we repeat some of the dances from Friday but without explanations. The second part is suitable for more advanced dancers and you can try behind them. It is your chance to explore more of the folk dances.
***
What to expect in the Friday practice(duration 1h) :
- Basic exercises and music for warm up.
- Break down and practice some basic steps / combinations.
- Learn a few dances - some are with very easy combinations, others might be a bit more complicated. You can participate as you wish. Focus is on dances from ethnographic areas that are in today's Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, North Macedonia.
- Improve on dances from previous evenings.
Social dance part (duration 30 min).:
- We can practise some of the dances without detailed explanations.
- Sometimes you will have the opportunity to listen to / dance on live music (bagpipe and two-sided drum).
- Socialise or learn more advanced dances.
- Other related music/social activities.
What to wear:
Please bring a clean pair of soft sole shoes that you will use only in the studio (trainers are ok, or others that are not with a hard sole. They don't have to be special dance shoes). I reserve the right to refuse participation if you don't have it. Dancing barefoot or with socks is not suitable.
The studio is in Santry, just beside Omni shopping centre, near bus stops and with free parking. Usually you can use the parking spaces that are just after the entrance of the business park but if there is none available, try other parking spaces in the business park.
Please check the address in advance for your first visit and let me know by email if you need further details. We have WhatsApp group - send me your phone number if you would like me to include you. Revolut payment is available.
