Thinking about starting a backyard flock? Join Reno County Extension agent Patrick Bergkamp for an introduction to keeping chickens in town. Patrick will cover the basics every aspiring chicken keeper should know: choosing the right breeds, building or buying a coop, feeding and daily care, health and safety, and what to expect when your hens start laying. We'll also walk through Newton's urban chicken ordinance so you know what's required before you bring any birds home. Whether you're ready to build a coop or just curious about what urban chicken-keeping involves, you'll leave with a clearer picture of what it takes to get started.
This is a hybrid program: Attend in person at Newton Public Library, 223 E. 7th, or click here to sign up for the Zoom Webinar broadcast: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_01M92NRDQZyhSc6GLctnBw. Patrick will be with us in person.
