Do you live in the Ballona Creek Watershed? If your home is anywhere within this 130-square-mile coastal plain—from the Santa Monica Mountains to Baldwin Hills—your garden is part of a vital ecological network. This includes neighborhoods like Culver City, West LA, Playa del Rey, Venice, Ladera Heights, Inglewood, Westchester, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and other areas of unincorporated Los Angeles.
Join us for an engaging and informative presentation by Jennifer Arrow, naturalist and Ballona watershed champion. Jennifer will guide us through a fascinating exploration of how to recognize and support the plants, animals, and fungi that share our urban landscape—starting from our backyards.
What to Expect:
👉 A visual slideshow of wildlife observations from a typical residential lot in the watershed (located in Culver City).
👉 Tips on how to identify the flora, fauna, and fungi in your own garden.
👉 Tools and resources for backyard biodiversity exploration
👉 Practical advice on how to “rewild” your own space and support local ecosystems.
Whether you're a green-thumbed gardening guru or simply enthralled by the flutter of butterflies or the buzz of backyard pollinators: whether you're just curious about cool native plants to beautify your garden or beneficial insects and critters like butterflies and hummingbirds outside your window, you'll leave knowing how to create your own biodiverse haven with a sense of a deeper connection to the natural world.
Join us as we discover the wild side of your garden in the Ballona Creek watershed!
