Join us at Enabling Village on 21 and 22 October for a 2-day, in-person training designed for helping professionals supporting survivors of sexual violence. This training aims to deepen participants’ understanding of trauma-informed case management and the survivor journey across healthcare and judicial systems.
This training is eligible for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) claims by the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW). Social workers who attend may submit their training hours towards their CPE requirements.
Who should attend
- Social workers, counsellors, case workers who work with survivors of sexual violence
- Community workers and institutional workers (schools, hospitals, non-profit organisations) who work with survivors of sexual violence and wish to strengthen their capacity.
Please review the eligibility requirements carefully before signing up. If you are unsure, please write in to [email protected].
This is not a skill-based training in counselling or therapy for survivors of sexual violence.
Why attend this training
AWARE has been supporting sexual violence survivors for over a decade, working to empower them in their journey toward justice, healing, and autonomy. Drawing from our frontline experience, we have developed the AWARE Sexual Assault Casework training to strengthen and enhance the capacity of professionals in the social service sector.
Recognising the complexity of supporting sexual violence survivors, we have specially invited resource persons from the legal and healthcare sectors to share valuable insights into the survivor’s journey through different systems—including police reporting, court proceedings, and hospital processes.
If you are looking to strengthen your existing practice, this training offers a rare opportunity to learn from frontline practitioners, engage in meaningful discussions, and build a more informed, empathetic, and coordinated response to sexual violence.
What you will learn
By the end of this 2-day training programme, participants will be able to:
- Deepen understanding of sexual violence and its intersections with broader gender-based violence
- Apply trauma-informed principles to empower survivors in making informed choices
- Strengthen capacity to support disclosures and reporting of sexual violence
- Engage in dialogue on challenges in sexual violence casework
- Learn the different systems that survivors interface with and how to navigate them
- Explore advocacy areas and collaborative opportunities to mediate gender‑based violence
- Build networks of contacts and resources for sustained, collective support.

About the Trainers
Ruth Ng
Principal Social Worker at AWARE’s Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC)
Ruth is a social worker and counsellor with 19 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through challenges related to family violence, mental health, and suicide. She has worked in a variety of roles — including counselling, leadership, and training — across community, residential, and faith-based settings. Ruth is currently a Principal Social Worker at AWARE’s Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC). She believes strongly in the strength and resilience that each person carries, even in the face of pain and difficulty.
With extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence, Ruth brings a deeply trauma-informed and survivor-centred approach to both her practice and training. She works closely with survivors to create safe and respectful spaces that support healing, empowerment, and recovery, while helping professionals build practical skills and confidence in providing sensitive and effective casework support.
Her approach is guided by the belief that we all have the capacity to move toward a more whole and integrated self. Ruth is also committed to her own personal growth, recognising the importance of reflective practice in trauma-informed work. She actively works through her own fears and challenges so she can better understand and connect with the experiences of others. She believes in walking alongside survivors with authenticity, compassion, and care, and in not asking of clients anything she would not be willing to face herself.
Ijin Tan
A lawyer and a long-time volunteer with AWARE Sexual Assault Care Centre's legal clinic, Ijin has supported survivors for over a decade. Drawing from her experience in both legal practice and investigations work, she will share legal perspectives and insights into survivors' experiences navigating the criminal justice system.
