Autumnal walk through historic Clerkenwell
About this Event
Join me for a warming walk through the curious sites of Clerkenwell. From the craze for gin (from a wheelbarrow!) to London’s original caffeine rush, I'll entertain you with stories of crime, clock-making, coffee shop culture, costermongers and free Christmas dinners.
Starting at the home of the world's first ever tube journey, we'll stroll through beautiful Dickensian streets and hidden alleyways. We'll discover Lenins workplace, hear how people lived and worked – with jobs like night soil-men, purifiers and bummarees – and find out about plans for a floating airbase made of ice.
Our tour will last around 100 minutes, beginning at Farringdon Station and ending at St Bartholomew the Great church, near Barbican Station. (For anyone feeling festive, St Bart's host a beautiful Advent carol service shortly after our tour ends.)
Please look out for new tours every month.
