Build an assurance approach for automated decisions, covering decision boundaries, bias controls, human oversight, and executive approval.
About this Event

When AI helps make decisions, organisations need to know where automation stops, where human judgement remains, and how decisions can be reviewed.

Automated decision-making can create efficiency, but it also raises important questions around privacy, bias, accountability, transparency, and human oversight. This practical WA AI Hub sprint helps teams assess these issues and build a clear assurance approach for AI-supported or automated decisions.

Using practical case scenarios, including biometric technology, privacy impact assessments, and automated decision-making, you will map decision points, identify risks, and develop an assurance artefact that can be used within your organisation.

Who this is for

This session is designed for:

  • AI product and delivery teams
  • Public-sector decision owners
  • Data analysts and data teams
  • Risk, privacy, and compliance professionals
  • Service designers
  • Professionals responsible for AI governance and assurance

What we will do together
  • Map the decision process: Separate human decisions, AI-assisted steps, and fully automated actions so responsibilities are clear.
  • Assess bias and potential harm: Identify data quality, bias, discrimination, and disproportionate impact risks that may affect outcomes.
  • Design human oversight: Define review, escalation, recordkeeping, and monitoring requirements for AI-supported decisions.
  • Build assurance evidence: Identify the evidence needed to support accountability, review, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Prepare executive assurance: Turn the assessment into a concise ADM Assurance Summary for approval and oversight.

What you will take home
  • A practical Decision and Automation Map
  • A Bias, Harm and Discrimination Controls Framework
  • A Human Oversight and Assurance Checklist
  • A one-page ADM Executive Assurance Pack

Good to know

Please bring your laptop for the practical activities. You may bring a general AI decision-making use case from your organisation, but do not use confidential, personal, or sensitive information during the session. No advanced technical background is required. This is a practical professional development sprint focused on automated decision-making assurance, privacy, risk, and governance, and does not constitute legal advice or compliance certification.
