Author Talk with Vanessa Miller

Vanessa Miller in conversation with Michelle Stimpson!!!

Step into The Dock Bookshop for a special conversation with acclaimed author, playwright, and motivational speaker Vanessa Miller, one of today's most celebrated voices in historical fiction. Known for her powerful stories of redemption and her compelling portrayals of strong Black women at pivotal moments in history, Miller has earned national recognition for award-winning novels including The American Queen and The Filling Station.

In her newest novel, The Ladies Hall, Miller brings to life the remarkable friendship and courage of three trailblazing women—Mary Church Terrell, Anna J. Cooper, and Ida Gibbs—whose time at Oberlin College in the 1880s helped shape their lifelong fight for civil rights, women's suffrage, and equality. Through themes of friendship, resilience, education, and social justice, The Ladies Hall illuminates the extraordinary impact of Black women whose voices helped transform America.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear from one of contemporary fiction's most inspiring storytellers as she discusses history, faith, literature, and the enduring power of women who dared to challenge the status quo.
