As we reflect on 250 years of America’s history, The Henry Ford invites you to a book signing and presentation by author Joseph McGill Jr., founder of the Slave Dwelling Project based in Charleston, South Carolina.
McGill will discuss his book “Sleeping with the Ancestors: How I Followed the Footprints of Slavery” (2023), co-authored with Herb Frazier. The book gives a personal account of McGill’s groundbreaking project to sleep overnight in former slave dwellings that still stand across the country — revealing the fascinating history behind these sites and shedding light on larger issues of race in America.
The program will take place in The Lodge at Christie & Main in Greenfield Village. A book signing begins at 3 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by McGill’s presentation and a brief audience Q&A. Copies of “Sleeping with the Ancestors” will be available for purchase.
Admission is free for members or included with village admission, available for purchase at THF.org/tickets.
This event is held in partnership with the Association for Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums.
