The Field House Museum is proud to welcome Miriam Moynihan on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM for a fascinating Author Talk on her book, South Broadway Athletic Club: St. Louis’s Home for Boxing, Wrestling, and Cheap Beer Since 1899. Founded in 1899, the SBAC quickly became a powerhouse in local boxing and wrestling, producing Olympic medalists, dominating Golden Gloves competitions, and serving as a vibrant social hub for the Soulard neighborhood. From thrilling matches and Big Band dances to fish fries and Christmas parties for children, the club has been a gathering place for generations.

Discover how this iconic institution weathered both glory days and hard times, emerging once again as a thriving center for friendship and athletic competition. Through captivating stories and historic images, this program celebrates the SBAC’s enduring legacy and its place in the heart of St. Louis.
This program is free with limited availability in person and on Zoom. Reservations must be made in advance on our website, by calling the Museum at 314-421-4689, or by emailing [email protected].
