Learn the One-Step! Partner dancingWould you like to feel comfortable partner-dancing to live music? Or maybe dancing with another person isn’t your thing, but you’ve always wanted to kick up your heels like Josephine Baker in Paris!
This November 22 at Central Library, travel back to 1925 with instructors Laurel Ryan and Christian Frommelt for a (free!) afternoon of dance classes designed for everyone—no previous skill (or partner) needed. Choose between solo and partnered class options, or stick around for both. Our instructors specialize in teaching simple, manageable ways of moving to music, aiming to bring more dancing into your everyday life. With book displays and original video from the 1920s, we’ll also explore the history of ragtime and jazz in St Louis and the Midwest.
Note: The noon Charleston session is geared more toward individuals hoping to do some dancing on their own. The 2pm One-Step session (this one) is better suited for partner dancing (although no partner needed to register.) If you plan on attending both, please register for both.
Registration is encouraged and will open November 1.
If accommodations, such as an interpreter, are needed for you or a member of your group to participate in this program, please fill out this form at least a week in advance. Staff can assist you in filling out the form, in person or by calling (314) 241-2288.
After you’ve learned a dance step or two, head down to the second floor to enjoy the Tea at Central Library program!
