As part of a series of events with Blue Forge Press, Christine Susumi will be doing a talk and signing at Orca Books Cooperative. The talk will start at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17th, signing will occur afterwards until 6:00 p.m.About the book:
Art's aspirations are upended following the
infamous attack on Pearl Harbor. Branded as the enemy within his own country, Art is ripped away from his life in West Seattle, forced to confront the harsh reality of internment camps. In a quest to prove his patriotism and loyalty, Art enlists in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team-a unit of all Japanese American soldiers.
In the quaint village of Écueillé, Yvette's peaceful existence is shattered by the Nazi occupation and she witnesses firsthand the cruelty and injustices inflicted upon her neighbors. Finding herself at the crossroads of survival and resistance, Yvette is thrust into a role far beyond her years.
After the war, Art returns to the United States, burdened by the memories of combat and his family's internment. A chance encounter with Yvette sparks an unexpected moment of profound understanding, forging a life-long connection amidst the lingering echoes of war.
