The discovery of three bodies by the shore of Lake Mead triggers a murderous vendetta aimed at sixteen-year-old Darby Donati, the sharp-tongued, self-indulgent daughter of a Las Vegas casino owner. As the danger escalates, Darby flees to Piñon, Arizona, deep in the Navajo Nation, where she encounters a world far removed from the glitz of the city. There, surrounded by family and a deep connection to the land, she begins to question not only her identity, but the life she has left behind. As the threat follows her, Darby is forced to confront who she is and what she is willing to risk to protect others.
Born in Pennsylvania, Michael Wescott Loder has lived a wide-ranging life that informs his writing. He has hiked, climbed, and explored caves across the United States, served as an Air Force officer, worked as a photographer and park naturalist, and spent more than 30 years as an academic librarian. He has lived and worked in eight different states and now resides with his wife near the family farm in a passive-solar, off-grid home they designed themselves.
Wes is the author of nine books, including five novels and historical works on cameras and the artist Paul Gill. Can Skinwalkers Swim? draws in part on his experiences living in the Navajo Nation during the 1970s, bringing authenticity and depth to its setting.
