About this Event

Join author John Tottenham and Tulsa Kinney on Saturday September 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Edendale Library to discuss Tottenham’s acclaimed novel Service. This darkly comic novel uses a recognizable reality as the basis for a flight into fiction, capturing life on the lower slopes of the Los Angeles literary scene as seen through the eyes of an aspiring novelist and jaded bookseller.

Gentrification, debt, friendship, aging gracelessly, self-Medic*tion, the writing process, professional jealously, the perils of political correctness, and the plight of the unrepentant artistic outsider in an unforgiving day and age; these and other topics will be addressed, in the heart of the neighborhood of their birth.

“Savage, furious, hilarious and melancholic all at once.” –Financial Times

“Highly accomplished, deeply satisfying.” –Times Literary Supplement

“A novel that reaches beyond itself.” –Irish Times

“Hilarious, refreshingly mean-spirited and often brilliant.” –Washington Post

“Laugh-out-loud funny and nearly always bang-on-true.” –Daily Mail

“I disliked this book a great deal.” –New Zealand Herald
