“The Night Before the Night Before Christmas”

Auditions for “The Night Before the Night before Christmas” are at The Linkville Playhouse located at 201 Main St. 6-8pm Monday September 14th & Tuesday September 15th. The show runs November 13th-28th, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm with a Sunday matinees at 2pm November 22nd. Rehearsals are generally Mondays-Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm, with some Fridays and weekends as needed. All are welcome to come to auditions, old timers and newcomers alike!
Lou is fed up with his neighbors superior Christmas displays and has decided he has wrestled with his last ball of tangled lights. He grabs sunblock, his Elvis in Paradise album, and his wife Carol and they hop on the Pineapple Express to Hawaii- or they will as soon as the freak snowstorm passes. Will a couple of strangers, aptly named Rudy and Nick, help restore Lou’s Christmas Spirit? Find out in this fast-paced farce.
This is a light-hearted fun comedy about Christmas, and we hope to have a stress-free and fun auditions. Dress comfortably. There will be cold readings and some carol singing but no one is required to have a great voice – just loud enough to be heard. If we have time, we may sing some carols. Don’t worry about age ranges if you can be made to look older or younger.
Characters needed: Everyone but Lou has 2 personas. 6 cast members, 3 m/ 3 w.
Lou: he needs to appear old enough to have a 30-year-old daughter. He is obsessed with Christmas normally but has lost his Christmas spirit this year and it has made him grumpy. Most of the play takes place in his dream after he falls off a ladder putting up Christmas lights.
Carol: she needs to appear old enough to have a 30-year-old daughter. She loves her husband Lou but they have a sarcastic bantering relationship. She is confident and has a great sense of humor, but may not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. Dream Carol is shop-happy and frivolous. She should be comfortable singing carols.
Pia: She is a doctor with an 8-year-old daughter so should appear at least 30 years old. Dream Pia is a sarcastic and recently divorced waitress with a 15-year-old daughter. Real Pia is a no-nonsense doctor who is happily married with an 8-year-old.
Mona: She should appear to be a few years younger than Lou. Dream Mona is a wild, man-crazy story teller with colorful hair and clothes. The crazier the better. Real Mona is a younger sister who adores her big brother. Probably will need wigs or fast costume changing to differentiate the two.
Rudy: dream Rudy is a non-gendered elfin character who is the airline ticket agent, but we see underneath that they are Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer. Should be comfortable singing Christmas carols.
Nick: dream Nick is a bar-tender with a heart of gold. We see underneath that he is St Nick or good ol Santa Clause. Wise and has great gravitas. A plus would be if he looks Santa-ish but not necessary.
