Little Shop of Horrors

No experience is necessary. No roles have been precast. All roles are listed below.
This is a non-paid performing and volunteer opportunity.
There are nominal stipends available for certain offstage volunteer positions.

REHEARSALS AND TECH WEEK:
Rehearsals: There will be up to 25 rehearsals for this production, plus tech week and performances. The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined (based on cast availability), but rehearsals are usually Sunday - Wednesday evenings. You will not be called to every rehearsal.
The rehearsal schedule intensifies as opening night draws closer.
Mandatory Tech Week: Sunday, May 25- Thursday, May 29, 2025
**Tech week rehearsals can run later into the evening. Be aware that we must run the entire show each night and that will mean rehearsals can last longer.
Anyone with an active role during performances, including actors, tech/stage crew, and stage managers, must be available and present for all tech week rehearsals. If you miss any part of tech week rehearsals, you may be removed from the production.
Headshots and resumes are encouraged but optional.
PLEASE LIST ANY AND ALL POTENTIAL DATE SCHEDULE CONFLICTS ON THE ONLINE FORMS. Casting and staffing decisions and rehearsal schedules are based in part on this information. We understand that sometimes things change, we need to be sure that everyone is available for all rehearsals when they are called.
PREPARATION - PERFORMERS:
Please bring a resume and recent headshot. Headshots do not need to be professionally taken.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, a movement audition, and a solo singing audition.
*Please prepare a 16 to 32-bar cut of a song from Little Shop of Horrors.
*The director would also like to see a 1-minute comedic monologue
For the song portion, bring an instrumental track of the song of your choosing. There will be a Bluetooth speaker provided. No a capella. No sheet music.
Please wear or bring clothes and shoes that you can move in as well. You will learn a short movement piece, taught by our choreographer.
VIDEO SUBMISSIONS:
If you are unable to attend an audition, video submissions are accepted. Provide a copy of your resume and headshot, as well as a 1 to 1.5 minute long video of you singing a musical theatre song in the style of the show. And a one minute comedic monologue. These materials must be sent via email to [email protected] by March 16. Any submissions sent after the 16th will not be accepted.
Little Shop of Horrors Summary:
The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
Roles:
Seymour Krelborn: Male, Age 25-35 (Tenor, Range A2-G4)
He is a genuine and well-meaning man who is clumsy and has poor social skills. He is also very insecure and easily walked over, yet he dreams of, and eventually becomes, a hero. who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.
Audrey: Female, Age 25 to 35 (Mezzo-Soprano, Range G#3-D5)
Bleached blond, incredibly beautiful woman but has little self-worth and education. She is very sweet at all times, yet also extremely vulnerable. The secret love of Seymour's life.
Mr. Mushnik: Male, Age 50 to 65 (Baritone, Range G2-F4)
The grizzled owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour's nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative.
Orin Scrivello: Male, Age: 30 to 40 (Baritone, Range G2-G4)
The egotistical dentist with a passion for motorbikes, leather and sadistic behaviour. Audrey's abusive boyfriend, and the target of envy from Seymour.
The Plant (Audrey II): Any Gender, please note physical requirements
Audrey 2 Puppeteers: An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Must have good physical strength, flexibility, and movement skills, and be able to support 50lbs for extended periods. Do not need to vocally audition.
Additional Puppeteers: Audrey 2 has two additional puppets that require different body sizes and physical strength. Do not need to vocally audition.
Voice Of the Plant: Male/Female (although Gender of the plant must be portrayed as Male), Age 20 to 50 (Baritone, Range G2-G4)
An actor/vocalist located offstage. The funky, R&B style voice is that of a conniving, street-smart 'villain.'
Crystal/Ronnette/Chiffon Female, Age: 20 to 35 (Mezzo-Soprano, Range Ab3-F5)
Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are diverse Street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, sassy, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Strong dance and harmony skills.
Ensemble Male/Female, Age: 20-50, (Looking for all vocal ranges)
May be called to perform various backing vocals and supporting characters.
**All are welcome and encouraged to audition, regardless of prior experience, ethnicity, disability, or identity.
