Calendar Girls is a heartwarming and humorous play by Tim Firth, based on the true story of eleven members of the Women's Institute (W.I.) who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund in the UK. The play, which premiered in 2008, is an adaptation of the 2003 film of the same name.Set in the picturesque village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales, the story begins with Annie, whose husband John has recently died of leukemia. To honor his memory and raise funds for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room, Annie and her best friend Chris come up with the bold idea of creating an "alternative" calendar featuring themselves and their friends in tasteful nude poses.
