The Actors Guild of Parkersburg is excited to announce open auditions for KEN LUDWIG'S LEND ME A SOPRANO, a hilarious new farce by Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig. Directed by Greg Merritt, performances are scheduled for June 13–22, 2025.Auditions will take place in the Guild’s Rehearsal Hall on March 30 and 31 at 7:00 PM. All community members are welcome to audition—no prior stage experience is required.
About the Show:
Set in 1934 in a luxurious Cleveland hotel suite, Lend Me a Soprano is a fast-paced comedy of mistaken identities, operatic egos, and backstage antics. When world-famous soprano Elena Firenzi is scheduled to perform in CARMEN, everything that can go wrong… does! From missing divas to love-struck assistants and an opera-obsessed bellhop, it’s up to one unlikely heroine to save the show in true screwball fashion.
Characters:
Mrs. Wylie (50–70): The high-strung general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company
Jo (20–35): A mousy assistant with hidden operatic talent
Jerry Wylie (20–35): Mrs. Wylie’s passionate son
Elena Firenzi (30–50): A glamorous, temperamental opera diva
Pasquale (30–50): Elena’s fiery Italian husband
Leo (30–55): A Dutch tenor with an eye for the ladies
Julia (50–70): Mrs. Wylie’s dramatic friend and chair of the Opera Guild
Bellhop (20–40): A spirited hotel employee who loves opera
Accent and Singing Requirements:
Elena and Pasquale speak with Italian accents
Jo adopts an Italian accent at one point
Leo has a Dutch accent
Elena and Jo must sing in an operatic style
Note: Some roles involve brief appearances in minimal clothing.
Audition sides will be provided at the audition, with selected scenes emphasizing comedic timing, physical comedy, and
vocal performance. Those auditioning for Jo or Elena will be asked to sing briefly to demonstrate vocal range.
